Turtle Nesting Season is Here!
/Did you know that the Baja California peninsula is home to five of the world’s seven endangered sea turtle species? The olive ridley and leatherback are the most common on our part of the peninsula, and if you happen to take a stroll along the beach during the summer, you might just be lucky enough to see a female olive ridley or leatherback make her way out of the ocean and onto the sand, where she will build her nest. (The leatherbacks are especially impressive, as they can grow up to six feet long and weigh over 1000 pounds!) Mazatlan’s conservationista contribute to efforts to preserve and expand Baja California’s sea turtle population.
